"Dedicated, swinging, creative musician, Caetano Brasil is curious about music from all over the world and fearlessly combines his influences together with his first love – Choro.
Caetano is a swinging horn player, wonderful on his clarinet in addition to all saxophones and flute and an accomplished writer and arranger. I’ve been enjoying very much following Caetano’s evolution as a musician and I look forward to accompany his musical path which will no doubt be full of good taste, surprises and lots of swing!"

Brazilian musician Caetano Brasil is a clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer. Upon completing 10 years of career in 2020, he reached an important milestone that reinforces the professional choices he made throughout that period, celebrating his work and his artistic aesthetics developed in the language of contemporary Choro Music: his nomination for the Latin Grammy competing with “Cartografias ” in the category of Best Instrumental Album.
Sharing some information that got him to this point, we can say that Caetano develops an extremely contemporary authorial work by mixing Choro Music - a typically Brazilian genre - with jazz, Eastern folk music, Latin rhythms and other cultures around the world. Thus, people who know his music, either virtually or in one of his presentations, get familiar with compositions and arrangements that carry features of his land and, at the same time, refer to other peoples. We can say that this is one of the cultural movements that mark territories, scenarios, emotions, memories and feelings.
His growing performance in the music scene has been already recognized in Brazil. The clarinetist was awarded 1st place in the 18th Prêmio Nabor Pires Camargo (Indaiatuba / São Paulo state) and also as “Best Instrumentalist” of the 19th Prêmio BDMG Instrumental (Belo Horizonte / Minas Gerais state - abbreviated as MG), both in 2019.
Also in 2019, he was honored with the Geraldo Pereira Medal, awarded by Juiz de Fora City Council in a patternship with Associação Cultural Estação Palco, in recognition of his work of producing, disseminating and enhancing artistic and cultural manifestations in the city and region.
Caetano works with prominence in the teaching and democratization of Choro Music and in recent years he has taught classes, courses, lectures and workshops on various themes involving that musical genre. In 2020, he taught the class “O clarinete no choro” (The Clarinet in Choro Music) in the programming of Fimuca (Festival Insternacional de Música em Casa) and the online mini course “O choro: história e evolução" (Choro Music: its history and evolution), contemplated by BDMG Cultural's public notice Redes de Conhecimento. He has been the creator and coordinator, since May 2017, of Projeto Mão na Roda, a didactic roda de choro that takes place weekly in Juiz de Fora.
In recent years, Caetano has also been drawing attention for his performance in the musical direction of various artistic works and cultural initiatives such as the project “Chora, Princesa! – Um Painel do Choro Contemporâneo de Juiz de Fora”, co-idealized by him, whose album was released in 2019.
Caetano Brasil has a dynamic online presence by creating media-specific content that has a wide audience reach, such as the “Conversa de Improviso” and “Em Pauta” web series about improvisation and his creative process as a composer respectively, and the visual single “Romani”. From 2020 on, artistic production for his youtube channel stands out, featuring original Choro Music arrangements for songs from other genres, educational content and varied performances.
On going back in time, we will find that he began to study in a practically self-taught way. When he was 12, he started playing the clarinet and at the age of 15, he was already part of the Clube do Choro de Juiz de Fora. Not long after, the musician also attended the Universidade de Música Popular (Bituca) de Barbacena (MG).
He released his first CD, in 2015, entitled "Caetano Brasil", with resources provided by Lei Murilo Mendes (Lei Municipal de Incentivo à Cultura de Juiz de Fora / MG). In recent years, he has shared the stage with important national and international musicians, and has recorded with the Brazilian pianist Cristóvão Bastos, guitarist Yamandu Costa, Turkish multi-instrumentalist Chadas Ustuntas, among others.
In 2017, he was the artist responsible for the project "O mundo do choro contemporâneo", sponsored by Banco do Nordeste and produced by Sinfônica Produções, with concerts and music workshops at the Centros Culturais Banco do Nordeste in Fortaleza and Juazeiro do Norte.
"Tive a oportunidade de acompanhar a formação de diversos clarinetistas populares brasileiros nos últimos anos, mas nenhum com a maturidade precoce e versatilidade artística do Caetano Brasil. É bonito ver uma formação tão sólida a serviço de toda uma sensibilidade e diversidade de gêneros que ele incorpora a cada interpretação."
Clarinetist, composer, award winner clarinet teacher at Escola Portátil de Música.
"Caetano tem o Brasil no nome, na ponta da língua, dos dedos e do pensamento. Um Brasil que tem no Choro um veículo de conexão com sua tradição e de potência criativa apontada para o futuro. E que graças a artistas como Caetano tem sua vocação, para a dança e a transfiguração, reforçadas e renovadas, fazendo com que seus habitantes sejam, geração após geração, cada vez mais brasileiros. Instrumentista, compositor e arranjador inventivo e corajoso, Caetano tem um sopro de Brasil."
Composer, arranger, educator and awards winner such as BDMG Instrumental, Guarulhos Instrumental e IBEU de composição para big band.
