about

Caetano Brasil is one of the leading clarinet voices in the contemporary Brazilian instrumental music scene. Nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2020 for his original album "Cartografias," the skilled improviser from Minas Gerais state rethinks and proposes a new face for Choro Music, one that goes far beyond the sound. This is because Caetano not only blends influences from jazz and world music, but also develops a thoughtful communication project on stage and on social media, merging his music with fashion and activism for Black and LGBTQIAPN+ rights.
Born in Juiz de Fora, Caetano grew up in an artistic environment, influenced by his parents, who were involved in theater, literature, and visual arts. As a child, he discovered Choro by attending a music workshop where he played the recorder. Self-taught, he started studying clarinet at age 12 and, at 15, was already performing professionally at the Clube do Choro de Juiz de Fora. His musical journey is marked by a wide range of experience in different settings, from dance bands to symphonic orchestras.
In 2013, Caetano launched his work as a bandleader, beginning a career that would take him to perform on major stages across Brazil, such as the Centro Cultural Banco do Nordeste in Ceará, the Casa do Choro in Rio de Janeiro, and various Sesc units in São Paulo. With his quintet, now a quartet, he recorded three albums: "Caetano Brasil" (2015), "Cartografias" (2019), and "Pixinverso - Infinito Pixinguinha" (2022). His talent was recognized with first place at the XVIII Prêmio Nabor Pires Camargo in Indaiatuba (2019) and as Best Instrumentalist at the XIX Prêmio BDMG Instrumental in Belo Horizonte (2019).
As a composer and arranger, Caetano continues to explore new sounds in works like the original EP "Caetano Brasil & O Choro É Livre" (2023) and collaborations with other artists, such as the single "Vibrações" (2024), produced in partnership with Ever Beatz, which offers an electronic reinterpretation of this Choro standard by Jacob do Bandolim.
On social media, particularly Instagram, Caetano stands out not only for his music but also for his engagement in debates about the place of Black and gay artists in instrumental music, the reality of independent production, and the intersection of semiotics and visual communication. His image work is carefully crafted, aligning fashion and art authentically, with an accessible and inclusive language that resonates with diverse audiences.
In addition to his artistic work, Caetano shares his musical knowledge through improvisation courses, workshops, masterclasses, and as a clarinet and saxophone teacher at Bituca - Universidade de Música Popular in Barbacena. He also offers image consulting for artists, helping them express their identity through fashion and color, participating in the creation of stage costumes and conducting personal color analysis.
Caetano Brasil is, therefore, a multifaceted artist whose work bridges music, fashion, and activism, leaving an indelible mark on Brazilian music and inspiring new generations to explore and expand the boundaries of art.
