PROJECTS

Cartografias

The proposal of “Cartografias” is to unite choro, a typically Brazilian genre, with jazz,  oriental folk music, rhythms from Latin and other cultures around the world. This is an artistic project that Caetano developed until 2020 and that brought many significant encounters, learning and recognition to himself.

Caetano has an intense compositional research process with the objective of finding songs that are present in popular daily life and in the historical formation of various locations around the world. Thus, he looks for songs with the same social and cultural function that choro represents to Brazil, with the main objective of producing mixed music that integrates various cultures. Cartografias came from this search and artistic look.

CARTOGRAFIAS

In 2020, Cartografias was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category “Best instrumental album”. Part of the album's repertoire included performances at the XIX BDMG Instrumental Prize and the XVIII Nabor Pires Camargo Instrumentista Prize, both in 2019, in which Caetano was elected “Best Instrumentalist” and awarded 1st place, respectively.

The album's release concert took place on one of the main stages in Minas Gerais: Cine Theatro Central in the city of Juiz de Fora. Other outstanding presentations were the performance held at Bituca Theater - Popular University of Barbacena and the participations in the Festival ViJazz Mineiro in Itabira and Moinho Cultural Festival in Juiz de Fora.

Moreover, during the Cartografias project period, Caetano was awarded the Geraldo Pereira Medal granted by the Juiz de Fora City Council in recognition of his work in the production, dissemination and enhancement of artistic and cultural manifestations in the city and region.
